Interior Decor Group

The Interior Decor Group transformed the otherwise simple Mustang cabin with distinctive upholstery and trim. Enthusiasts commonly call it the Pony Interior because of the running horses embossed into the seatbacks.

A secondary later-1965 body-and-trim table contains luxury-interior rows, but the source trail does not yet prove that their sum equals every Interior Decor Group installation. The possible total is therefore preserved as a reported proxy, not presented as a factory option count.

Ford's price list defines this as a group containing special interior trim, a deluxe simulated-wood steering wheel, rear door courtesy lights, and pistol-grip door handles. The embossed running-horse seat inserts are the source of the enthusiast nickname Pony Interior.

The count is derived from the table's 1966 calendar-year luxury body/trim rows rather than from a surviving option-installation report. It covers 55,938 hardtops, 12,520 convertibles, and 7,889 fastbacks; equivalence to 1966 model-year production has not been confirmed.
