Inspection Checklist

Body, Rust, And Structure

Inspect the cowl, floor pans, rockers, torque boxes, and rear leaf-spring mounts before judging the finish on a 1969–1970 car.
Boss/CJ/SCJ cars need careful front-end and drivetrain inspection because value attracts restamps, swapped engines, and drag-race wear.
Check NHTSA year records for equipment-specific steering, brake, spindle, and wheel-related inspection prompts.

Special-Model Verification

A 1969 Mach 1 must be a SportsRoof fastback with body style code 63C on the door data plate; it was not a hardtop or convertible.
Mach 1 clues include matte-black hood treatment, hood pins, scoop or Shaker, competition suspension content, pop-open gas cap, deluxe interior, high-back buckets, and optional spoilers/louvers, but all require data and drivetrain support.
Use Marti/build evidence for Boss 302, Boss 429, Cobra Jet, Super Cobra Jet, Drag Pack, Shelby carryover, and rare 1969 GT claims.

Mechanical And Interior

Verify engine, transmission, axle, and cooling hardware by casting/date codes and photos; a big-value car with no engine-pad, axle-tag, or transmission photos is unresolved.
Interior claims should match trim code and package: Mach 1 deluxe woodgrain/high-back cues, Boss minimalism, or Shelby-specific details need paperwork support.

Photo Clues

Mach 1 photos should show SportsRoof body, correct hood treatment, hood pins, pop-open gas cap, deluxe interior, and rear valance/exhaust details that match engine/package.

Boss 302/Boss 429 photos should include engine bay, shock towers, suspension, wheels, interior, and VIN/data-plate evidence, not just stripes.

Rear spoiler, louvers, Shaker, stripes, and Magnum-style wheels are value clues but are also easy additions; ask for data plate and Marti photos early.

VIN, Tag & Option Mismatch Checks

Wrong body style is a hard stop: 1969-1970 Mach 1 is not a coupe or convertible.

A 1969 GT claim is unusual enough to verify carefully because the GT option ended after 1969 and was far less common than the Mach 1.

Known Buyer Risks

Do not let shiny paint outrank a cowl, floor, rocker, torque-box, and rear leaf-spring-mount inspection.
High-dollar engine and package claims need more than VIN decoding; check drivetrain date codes and paper trail.
