Inspection Checklist

Body, Rust, And Structure

Inspect front rails, aprons, strut towers, core support, rear torque boxes, floors, trunk, convertible wells, and uneven hood/fender gaps for crash or drag-use history.
Convertible cars need top frame, pump/cylinders/hoses, quarter-window alignment, rear footwell water, rear window bond, and cowl shake checks.
SN95 still carries Fox DNA, so torque boxes and floors remain important on GTs, Cobras, and modified cars.

Powertrain

1994-1995 5.0 cars need SN95-specific intake/accessory/ECU parts checked; Fox parts and tune assumptions do not always transfer cleanly.
1996-1998 GTs are non-PI 4.6 two-valve cars; inspect for composite intake coolant crossover failure, coolant stains, overheating history, and aluminum-crossover replacement.
1996-1998 Cobras need IMRC operation, cooling health, correct 4V Cobra engine parts, T-45 behavior, and engine-builder label/plaque evidence where relevant.

Identity And Options

1996 Mystic Cobra was coupe-only and 1,999 were built; verify Mystic paint, Cobra VIN/options, and interior because the paint is value-critical.
Scan OBD-II readiness on 1996-up cars; recently cleared monitors can hide catalyst, EGR, EVAP, or misfire problems.
Saleen or Cobra claims require serial/paperwork trail, body kit, wheels, brakes, interior, drivetrain, and original selling documentation.

Photo Clues

1994-1995 GT/Cobra photos should show 5.0 hardware; 1996-1998 GT/Cobra photos should show modular 4.6 hardware.

Mystic Cobra photos should show a 1996 Cobra coupe with color-shift paint and correct Cobra trim, not a repaint on another SN95.

Convertible photos should include top up/down, rear glass, quarter windows, rear footwells, and pump/well area.

VIN, Tag & Option Mismatch Checks

GT-to-Cobra clones are common: front/rear fascia, badges, wheels, and seats must match VIN, engine, brakes, and documentation.

A 1996 Mystic convertible is not factory-correct because Mystic production was Cobra coupe-only.

Known Buyer Risks

Composite intake coolant crossover failure, convertible leaks, torque-box stress, and OBD-II readiness issues are common buyer checks.
SN95 Cobras have good color/interior data, so use it to check rare-color claims.

Use paint/interior codes as a screening tool, then verify individual cars from door labels, window stickers, Marti reports where available, SVT/Shelby/registry records, or Ford build data.
